On a Sunday evening in late October 2010, the Eastbourne Royal Hippodrome gathered for an enjoyable night of roots music when Peter Donegan (son of the late Lonnie Donegan) headlined, supported by The Two Bob Band .

Peter Donegan took the stage and delivered the main event. At this stage of his career he was regularly carrying the skiffle legacy while developing his own voice. Expect a set heavy on the classic Lonnie repertoire — driving numbers such as “Rock Island Line,” “Battle of New Orleans,” “Puttin’ on the Style,” “Have a Drink on Me” and similar favourites — interspersed with traditional material and some of his own songs. His multi-instrumental ability (guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, keyboards) and clear vocal resemblance to his father gave the performance authenticity and energy. Between songs there was the usual easy banter and the occasional personal anecdote that connected the old skiffle hits to a 2010 audience.

Even then, it was clear that however he revered his father, he was going his own way.
